Accessibility
We want the site to work with a keyboard, a screen reader, a phone on a slow connection, and a browser with images turned off. This page says what we have done and where it still falls short.
What is in place
- Every page works without JavaScript; the menu and the video are the only scripted pieces.
- A “skip to content” link is the first thing a keyboard reaches.
- Focus is always visible, with a 3 px outline that is not removed anywhere.
- Text scales to 200% without loss of content and reflows to a single column below 900 px.
- Motion is off entirely when your system asks for reduced motion.
- Headings run in order, and the hero photograph is decorative rather than carrying meaning.
- Contrast on body text and on the dark footer is above 4.5:1.
At the farm stand
- Step-free gravel path from the pavement to the counter.
- Counter height 34 inches, with a lower shelf for seated customers.
- Shaded seating nearby and a water jug in season.
- Large-print price boards; staff will read anything aloud on request.
- Service animals welcome. Please leave pets at the gate.
Where we know we fall short
Short clips are posted during the season. Captions and transcripts are being added; until then, each clip carries a written description in the post text.
That is a third-party request. If it is blocked, the site falls back to system fonts and stays readable — nothing depends on the download.
Tell us what is broken
Write to access@sprouturbanfarms.org, or post to PO Box 888, Battle Creek, MI 49016. We aim to reply within two working days and to fix blocking issues quickly. If you need something in another format — large print, plain text, an audio walkthrough — ask and we will make it.
