GreenFist Project

The GreenFist Project is a youth internship program that started in July of 2011. Over the past two years, the program has employed 33 young adults from 16-23 years of age and numerous school districts in and around Battle Creek. During the program, the GreenFisters did the following projects:

1. Assisted with Garden in a Bucket Program with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.
2. Built and Installed Rain Harvesting System at Leila Arboretum and Urbandale Community Garden
3. Community Garden Assistance Program – Assisted gardens with task such as harvesting, watering, weeding etc.
4. Designed and Installed Signs for Various Gardens
5. Harvesting & Selling at Community Venues
6. Learned Organic Farming Methods at Green Gardens Community Farm
7. Project GRUB Harvesting and Delivery/Pick Up
8. Pruned Trees and Trash Pick Up at Irving Park
9. Youth Art Installation at Creekside Community Garden

​This summer, GreenFist Interns will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Bright Star Farm, Fresh on Wheels and the SprOuthouse.
